A Name Card Behind the Frame: Ishizaki Koyo
Something unusual happened today.
On the back of a framed work that found its way to us, we discovered what appears to be the artist’s own name card.
Ishizaki Koyo (1884–1947), a Nihonga painter (Japanese-style painting) born in Fukumitsu, Nanto City, who built his career in Kyoto.
A simple card, bearing only his name and address.
He is one of the people we would have loved to speak with, had he still been alive.
Somehow the card seemed to convey his character, and it matched the impression we had long held of him. It was a moment that made us happy.
